Page 1 of 3 Absences and Illnesses

- There may be times during the school year when your child may need to be excluded from school. If your child is feeling unwell, please keep him or her at home.
- Please contact the office by 9 am if your child will be absent on any given day.
- You are required to notify the school immediately if your child has or contracts a communicable disease such as chicken-pox, coxsackie, HIV, impetigo, or head lice, etc. Your child may not return to the school without permission from your physician and clearance from the MCS office.
- Determination of a child's ill health will be based upon the following standards: sore throat, cough, earache, sneezing and runny nose, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, fever (above 100), etc. If your child exhibits any of these symptoms please do not return him or her to school within a 48 hour period without consulting with your pediatrician. If your child becomes ill at school, you will be notified to pick him or her up.
- Medications must be stored in the office, where parents are required to sign an authorization form. State regulations require that medication be in its original container.
Emergency Contact
- Because children do have accidents and/or become ill while at school, it is essential that the school have on file the names of at least two persons who can be contacted in a parent's absence to care for the child. This information should be included on the Emergency Card. Please contact the office and classroom immediately when there are changes in emergency contact information.
- Many of the staff are trained in first aid and C.P.R. State regulations require that we treat injuries with soap and water only for pre-primary and primary students, unless a parent or guardian has filled out a form giving staff members permission to apply medication, ointment, etc.
- Please make sure that the office has an out-of-state contact for your family and any essential medication that your child may require.
- If parents or emergency contacts cannot be reached and staff determines your child needs medical attention, your child will be transported to the medical facility designated on his or her emergency card, either by staff vehicle or ambulance. Parents assume any resulting expense and hold harmless staff and volunteers assisting in such an instance.
